Updated: Feb 14

For week 3 our team focused on refining our look-development rig, lighting and the camera angles for our shots. Following our meeting with the mentors at the beginning of the week, we established a clear set of priorities and action items to guide our workflow.

  • PRIORITIES:

    • Lighting

    • Transitions between shots

    • Camera

    • FX refining

  • Move shoot day to Friday Feb 6th

  • TO DO:

    • Look Dev

      • Add some sheen for cloth

      • Explore wrinkles in textures

      • Reference swatches that came in

    • Lighting

      • Grayscale pass for lighting

      • Window gobo for cooler lighting set up

      • Match Boll and Branch ad reference

    • Camera

      • Left to right real slow shot 1 and 2

      • Shot 3 to 4 transition

      • Shot 4 starts in a better place, and ends a bit closer. Camera stop then character comes in

    • FX

      • Slower threading and embroidery

      • Reference swatches that came in

      • Big fluffy sheets, more like a comfy soft bed you want to sleep in

        • similar to Boll and Branch ad

The mentors collectively agreed that our lighting should align closely with Boll & Branch’s advertising style. Using one of their ads as a reference, I created an initial lighting pass to capture the soft, elegant, and inviting mood of their brand.

We also adjusted the camera angle for the final shot, which required changes to the window gobo and lighting setup to ensure the sunlight came through the windows as intended. As Ella finalized the textures, I applied them to the bed model, allowing us to better evaluate how the materials responded under the lighting conditions, and if changes needed to be made.

Ahead of our live-action shoot day, the team finalized the camera movement, while Mia continued developing the cloth simulations. We are working on importing both elements into Maya to evaluate how the lighting interacted with the animation and simulations, helping us identify any final adjustments needed before moving forward.
