This week has been all about fine-tuning our shots to ensure we’re on track to hit our goal of having everything 90% complete by the end of the week. With the mentors visiting us here in Savannah during week 9, the next two weeks will be crucial in making everything look as polished as possible.

Shot5
5A and 5B don’t look like the same pillows in the lighting
Shot 6

Looks a bit like a soap bar
Shot 7
Camera stop at end feels awkward

Let cloth sim settle at start to better transition from shot 6
I finalized the placement of the tree gobo for shots 6 and 7 this week, which we started working on last week. Our aim was to keep the gobo subtle so it wouldn’t distract from the bed, which is the focal point of these shots. To achieve this, I placed the gobo so the shadows fell at the foot of the bed, maintaining a balance that didn’t overpower the rest of the scene. This was particularly important in shot 6, where the camera is closest to the foot of the bed.

For shot 6 itself, I made some adjustments to the mattress model to be less rounded. Meanwhile, Ella worked on refining the subsurface scattering and bump maps for the mattress texture, successfully eliminating the "soap bar" effect that had been previously mentioned.
For shot 5B, I adjustments to more closely match the look of shot 5A. I increased the light intensity to ensure the bright whites seen in shot 5A carried over. Additionally, I softened the shadows in 5B to a similar degree as in shots 4 and 5A. Ella also adjusted the headboard material, shifting it from cream to a more tan color to help the pillows stand out in 5B.

We were concerned about how the new tan headboard would look in other shots, particularly shot 7, which is our main hero shot. We didn’t want the headboard to suddenly feel out of place and distract from the scene. To mitigate this, we tested several variations of tan and settled on a more medium tan color as the best option.
